Rain Water Harvesting

Rainwater Harvesting

  • Definition: Rainwater harvesting is the process of collecting and storing rainwater for later use, instead of letting it run off into drains or rivers.
  • Collection Methods: It is usually done by capturing rain from rooftops, paved areas, or open land surfaces.
  • Storage: The collected water is stored in tanks, cisterns, or directed to recharge groundwater through pits and wells.
  • Uses: The harvested water can be used for irrigation, gardening, household needs, and groundwater recharge.
  • Benefits: It conserves water, reduces dependency on external water supply, prevents flooding, and improves groundwater levels
