on 15.03.2025

The Women's Studies Centre organized an Arts and Crafts Workshop to enhance students' creativity and practical skills in various artistic techniques. The workshop aimed to provide hands-on training in craft-making, encouraging participants to explore different forms of visual art. The session was conducted by Thulasi Kannan from Ajantha Arts and Crafts, Madurai, an expert in the field, who shared valuable insights and demonstrated intricate crafting methods.

The resource person provided step-by-step guidance on four different crafts, ensuring an interactive and engaging learning experience. The session began with Tote Bag Painting, where students learned how to design and paint on fabric using different colour-blending techniques. This was followed by Tie and Dye, a creative fabric colouring method that involved folding, twisting, and tying cloth to produce unique patterns. Participants experimented with different dyeing techniques to create vibrant designs.

The next segment focused on Fabric clay and glass art, where students were introduced to the process of working with fabric clay, embedding decorative elements, and crafting glass-based artwork. This session emphasized precision and patience, allowing participants to experiment with colours and textures. Finally, the workshop concluded with Mold Art, where students explored creating decorative and functional objects using different types of molds. The session covered material selection, mixing, and finishing techniques.
