Extension Activity on Millets Food Festival

on 22.08.2025

The Women’s Studies Centre organized an extension activity on the Millets Food Festival which comes under Sustainable Development Goals – 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) at Sriman Nayakiyar Vidya Mandir Matriculation School, Madurai. The programme aimed to create awareness about healthy eating practices among school students.

Dr. R. Aruna welcomed the gathering, honored the school principal, and highlighted the importance of including millets in daily diet while cautioning against the harmful effects of consuming junk food.

Naagu Lakshmi, a first-year Botany student, delivered a 15-minute presentation, explaining different types of millets, their nutritional value, and their health benefits. She encouraged the students to adopt millet-based food habits in their lifestyle.

This was followed by a skit enacted by WSC students. The play portrayed two families — one leading a health-conscious lifestyle and another dependent on junk food. The performance emphasized how unhealthy eating habits lead to long-term health issues, urging the school students to choose nutritious alternatives.
