The Women’s Studies Centre of Thiagarajar College organized an Orientation Programme exclusively for I UG female students to introduce the certificate programme titled “Life Skills for Women” and a series of 12 Job / Entrepreneurial Skill Development Courses offered by Women’s Studies Centre.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Mrs. R. Sribala, Director of WSC, who emphasized the significance of women’s education in the modern world and the Centre’s commitment to fostering equity and empowerment. Concluded with a powerful quote “Don’t just take the easier path, take the right one,” inspiring the students to care for their well-being and make the right life choices.
Dr. R. Aruna, Programme Coordinator, highlighted the Centre’s milestones, shared insights into the syllabus, structure and evaluation strategies. She motivated the students to maintain self-reliance, regularity, and responsibility throughout their academic journey.
Following this, three enthusiastic students from the Botany and Physics Departments shared feedback about the Life Skills for Women course. They expressed how the curriculum boosted their public speaking confidence, improved interpersonal competencies, and enhanced their leadership potential. They also acknowledged the scholarship support extended by the WSC.
Dr. C. Usha, Assistant Professor of Botany and Gender Studies Coordinator, gave an overview of twelve Job / Entrepreneurial Skill Development programmes that combine basic theory with extensive hands-on exposure to nurture employability.
Dr. G. Selvarakku, Assistant Professor of Tamil and Coordinator, Gender Studies delivered a thought provoking lecture on "பெண்ணியம் போற்றுவோம்", instilling self-worth and ambition. Explained the five traits of an eagle like courage and high aspiration to inspire the audience.
The Programme helped them understand the opportunities offered by the Centre and inspired them to grow personally and professionally. Dr. D. Sasi Devi, Assistant Programme Coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks.
