Women’s Studies Centre organized an Awareness Programme on “Raise the Cudgel against Violence on Women” on 25th July2019. Mr. Kadhir of EVIDENCE, a human rights organization of Madurai was the speaker. Around 109 students from all the departments participated. Mr. Kathir threw light on the violence steeped on women in the patriarchal society and cited education as the only way out for young women. He cited many absorbing instances from his own experience when young girls were saved from doestic violence. He also cautioned the students to beware social media which may ensnare them unawares. He further counceled the students to use their mobile phones sparingly and concentrate more on their career. His talk created a ruffle among the students, who found the lecture very rewarding. Dr. I. Chitra, coordinator thanked the gathering.
Justice Sivaraj V. Patil Foundation for Socio-Legal Studies and Development organizes many awareness programmes for college students and the under privileged sector of the society. A conference was organised on the theme, “Law Relating to Adolescent Girls” and 30 students of our centre participated in it and realized the legal rights they are entitled to. A number of honourable judges from the High Court and Supreme Court participated and offered discourses on the legal rights that safeguard the young girls. The Director, Dr. V. Subathra Devi represented our centre in offering her felicitation.
