The Centre organized a debate on “Women Liberation – was it given by Men or taken by Women?” on 22.03.2017. Around 200 students from various departments of the college participated in the programme. Dr.M.Eyini, Principal of Thiagarajar College welcomed the gathering. The judge for this debate, Kalaimaman, Dr. Gnanasambanthan gave an overview on the topic and introduced the speakers. Dr. C. Ravi argued that men only support the development of women in the society. He explained the needs for developing women in a society and all the men argued that men are the backbone for women’s liberation. Dr. N. Arun Nagendran countered Dr. C. Ravi’s argument, citing examples in favour of his topic. Lilli Malar, I B.A., Tamil Student and Mrs. K. Praveena argued to prove that men are the cause for Women’s Liberation. On the opponent side Ms. Selva Muthumari, M.Phil Chemistry and Dr.S.Kasi, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics argued that only women support and work for their own liberation.
