Orientation Programme and Special Lecture on “Step Forward: A Journey Begins”

The Women’s Studies Centre, Thiagarajar College, Madurai – 625 009, organized an Orientation Programme and Special Lecture titled “Step Forward: A Journey Begins” on 1 July 2026 at Dr. Radha Thiagarajan Auditorium to commemorate National Doctor’s Day. The programme was conducted in alignment with SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being to create awareness on menstrual health, menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, and healthy lifestyle practices.

The programme began with a prayer and a Welcome Address by Dr. R. Aruna, Director, Women’s Studies Centre, who also introduced the Centre’s activities and the thirteen Certificate of Proficiency (COP) courses, encouraging students to actively participate in its programmes. Dr. D. Pandiaraja, Principal, delivered the Presidential Address, emphasizing the importance of health education for students.

The Special Lecture was delivered by Dr. W. Vani, OBG Consultant, Siva Jothi Nursing Home, Madurai, who spoke on menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, HPV vaccination, cervical cancer prevention, and the importance of breaking myths surrounding menstruation. The interactive session enabled students to clarify their doubts and gain practical health awareness.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Dr. M. Alamelumangai, Assistant Coordinator, Women’s Studies Centre. The event successfully enhanced students’ awareness of menstrual and reproductive health while reinforcing the institution’s commitment to SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being.
