The Women’s Studies Centre, Thiagarajar College, Madurai – 625 009, organized a Yoga Programme on the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing” on 19 June 2026 at 8.30 a.m. in the Basketball Court to commemorate the International Day of Yoga 2026. The programme was organized in alignment with SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being to promote physical fitness, mental wellness, and healthy ageing.
The programme began with a prayer, followed by the Welcome Address by Dr. R. Aruna, Director, Women’s Studies Centre. Dr. R. Selvakumar, Head & Director of Physical Education, highlighted the importance of yoga for maintaining physical and mental well-being. The yoga session was conducted by Dr. S. Akil Karthika and Dr. S. Indhu from AVN Arogya Ayurvedic Hospital, Madurai, who demonstrated yoga postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques beneficial for healthy ageing.
Students, faculty, and staff actively participated in the practical session. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Ms. S. Rathika, Project Assistant, Women’s Studies Centre. The event successfully created awareness about the role of yoga in promoting holistic health and reinforced the institution’s commitment to SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being.
